Annual General Meeting

  • S.S. Sicamous Marine Heritage Society 1099 Lakeshore Drive West Penticton, BC, V2A 1B7 Canada (map)

Dear Followers,

Our Annual General Meeting is to be held on the SS Sicamous at 5:00 p.m. on Monday 6 May. The AGM is an opportunity for our Directors to share what they have been doing during the past year. The Directors are all volunteers and each one brings a unique set of skills to the Board. Board meetings are held monthly, and each Director also sits on one or two of our committees. It is not an onerous commitment.

Much as we value the work that has been done by the current Directors, there is always room for more people to join the Board and this is where we are asking for your help. The skills needed to steer our ships and other assets along the correct path are many and various. For example, we need:

  • people with marketing skills

  • people with fund-raising skills and connections

  • people with administrative skills

  • people with maintenance and restoration skills - carpenters, - -electricians, plumbers

  • people with project-management skills

  • people with public relations skills

  • people with financial skills

  • people with human resources skills

  • people with a passion for history

If any of these apply to you, please come forward and offer yourself for election as a Director of our Society. We would be delighted to hear from you.

In addition to our hard-working Board, the Society is blessed to have the services of a very large number of volunteers. We could not manage without them. The sort of things our volunteers get involved with are:

  • maintenance work

  • restoration work

  • electrical work

  • managing the Kettle Valley Model Railway

  • greeting visitors to the ship and guiding them around

  • assisting with managing our archives and collections

If becoming a Director seems a bit too much of a commitment - and we all have lives to lead - why not consider becoming a volunteer? The hours would be entirely of your own choosing, and you would have the knowledge that you are helping, in a big way, to enable the Society to continue its important work for the benefit of the people of Penticton and the wider community.

If you have any questions or suggestions about any of the foregoing, please get in touch! Email our crew at info@sssicamous.ca for more details.
